Bumblebee Jasper

This material from Indonesia is becoming very popular. It is sold as Bumblebee Agate or Bumblebee Jasper although it is really a travertine and not a jasper.

It is characterised by the vivid yellow, orange and black striped markings with off white to grey undulating patterns. It is the yellow and black patterns that give this stone its' name.

The material is anhydrite (gypsum), sulfur, hematite, in a matrix of volcanic tuff (welded ash).

Bumblebee Jasper has a hardness of approximately 5 on Moh's Scale.
