The Chinese have been mining Turquoise for at least over 3000 years. It is believed, however, that ancient Chinese civilizations imported most of their Turquoise, probably from Persia (Iran) as the Chinese have always prefered matrix free, solid blue, (Robin's Egg Blue) color Turquoise and most of the gemstone material produced in China appears to be spiderweb Turquoise. Turquoise was used to carve statues and other art pieces, preferring jade for their jewelry in the old times. Today, China considers Turquoise the number three most collectible gemstone on the planet. The Chinese are buying up as much Turquoise as possible to be made into jewelry and carvings. The Chinese have bought back as much of their Chinese Spiderweb Turquoise cabochons, beads, and rough as possible.
